Sugar Busters has been around since 1995 and deserves the title ‘Pioneer Of The Low Sugar Diets’.
The idea behind Sugar Busters is that eating too much sugar causes the body to produce excess amounts of insulin, which makes it easier to store fat. On the Sugar Busters diet, you’ll do very little counting. Your focus will be on eating healthy portions of foods that are low on the glycemic index, and limiting starches.
You’ll eat approximately three servings of grains a day, none of which are refined. You will be able to eat such grains as brown rice, oatmeal, stone ground whole wheat bread and sweet potatoes.

The Glycemic Index is a way to measure how high foods raise blood sugar after they are eaten. When your blood sugar rises, so does your insulin. The creators of the diet believe that high insulin levels promote fat storage. So, in short, you’ll eat high fiber, low sugar foods.
The Sugar Busters diet was developed by a business man and three doctors. They use the approach that we should eat as our ancestors ate. Before the obesity boom in America, we didn’t have foods such as Oreos, soft drinks, and all you can eat pizza buffets. Once highly processed carbs came on to the scene, Diabetes and obesity rates started to rise. The idea of the diet is that we cut out these highly processed foods to restore good health.
